Part of the (((Island Vibes))) - Tasty Little Ride Series 2025 series.
View all in seriesFor the main course in our winter series, a Mighty Burger. Mostly Whidbey Island rollers, with a hunger for spicy side quests- we'll roll up thru Langley to immerse ourselves in the Putney Woods trail system. There's much more there than we'll have time for, so we'll push on to Freeland for a regroup and vista snack. Next, the Trillium Community Forest welcomes us with a steady chill climb and rippin' outro. We'll hop back on the rollers and reel off easy road miles and explore some backroads into Coupeville for our lunch stop. Some might opt to turn around here, for the rest of us, we'll hop on the Kettles Trail into Fort Ebey for a couple lux duff & loam singletrack loops before initiating the return trip. We can work together on the road sections thru Fort Casey and work the island perimeter to hopefully catch sunset at Sunlight Beach. Chip and putt from there, opting for easy highway miles. It'll be a big day, long like a noodle and tasty like a burger.
Folks are welcome to arrive in any fashion convenient to them (parking at ferry terminal is metered and limited to 4 hours, see Start Location details for nearby option). The Lynnwood LRT station is about 40min from the Capitol Hill LRT and about 1:20 from the Columbia City station. The ferry terminal is ~11mi from the Lynnwood Light Rail station. It would be best to budget just about an hour to get from the Light Rail to the Mukilteo ferry. Arriving with more than a few minutes to spare works wonders on the nervous system. For the return trip, have a ferry snack and/or save some juice for the climb out of Mukilteo. Soon after that the route trends downhill and it's quite smooth sailing back to the Lynnwood station. It'll be dark, so keep your batts charged for that.
Recommend 38mm+ tires, plenty of kit and snacks for a big day. We'll be using road sections to connect the spicy bits. There will a couple of good water spots and full services in Coupeville.
