All Bodies on Bikes! x SACo in the San Juans

No bike camping or touring experience is necessary – in fact, you don’t even need to carry all your gear on your bike (unless you want to.) You will only need to carry items for a day out i.e, lunch, extra layers, etc. Each evening brings the crew back to Lopez Island to a cozy basecamp for delicious open-air meals and good times to wrap up the day.*

On this trip you can expect to enjoy no-drop group rides through gorgeous island scenery, delicious food prepared by Jason of Swift and Marley (who is secretly a dang good cook), and a welcoming environment. All experience levels and types of bikes are welcome – road/touring bikes will work best with most days mileage between 15-30 miles. One of our routes offers a short gravel section for those looking to try something a little different. Don’t feel like riding much? There are ample opportunities for non-biking activities such as kayaking, whale watching and wine tasting.

Body size exists on a spectrum and our lived experiences are not the same as other people’s in similar or differently sized bodies than ours. We recognize that many factors impact this, but especially race, country of origin, mobility level, and income level. We ride bikes for joyful movement and appreciate all forms of bike riding, including electric bikes, adaptive bikes, and tricycles. All Bodies on Bikes strives to be a body-neutral zone. That means we don’t talk about dieting, weight loss, weight gain, food restrictions, etc. We celebrate our bodies for what they can do. Wherever they are today, we say thank you, and give it the fuel, water, and rest it needs to perform at our best, each and every day. Schedule:

thur. June 16th, Guests arrive on Lopez at their leisure*. SACo van will be available to shuttle folx from the lopez ferry landing to camp at Lopez Farm Cottages. There we will orient you to camp and the island and send you off to explore solo. Marlye will host a short cycle to a sweet swim spot at 1pm. Happy hour starts at 4:30pm, dinner about 6:30pm fri. June 17th,Start the day with a breakfast of champions at camp. We will head back to the ferry, this time bound for Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. Be prepared to spend the day out with your day ride essentials because we’ll ditch our support van for the day. Once on San Juan Island our adventure really begins. Marley and Jason will host rides of different distances around San Juan Island. With possible stops at Lime Kiln Point Park, English Camp, and the harbor at Friday Harbor. If time allows we can get fresh bread at Bakery San Juan and beers at San Juan Brewing Co.Alternatively guests can book a whale watching or kayak tour, explore the island by e-bike with Meat Machine Cycles, explore Friday Harbor and the Whale Museum. Sat. June 18th, Day 3 we spend the entire day exploring Lopez Island. We will explore Fisherman Spit Preserve, Shark Reef Point, and Iceberg Point, and a lesser traveled dirt road (on the way back to camp). We will be out all day with lunch, snacks. Not feeling like biking much? You can book a kayak or whale watch tour, chill on the beach or explore town and the winery. Sun. June 19th, After breakfast and striking camp we will have time to wander the grounds at Lopez Farm Cottages. you can leave the island at your leisureThere are no reservations leaving Lopez, first come, first served for those bringing a car on the island (we can help you coordinate getting your car in line). No car, no problem, just pedal to the landing and hop on the boat. We can ferry you gear over in the van.. Enjoy the ferry and savor the last views of the magical island archipelago. Once back on the mainland we recommend checking out Washington Park for lunch. *Guests are responsible for their own means of transportation to and from the Anacortes/San Juan Ferry landing. We will help by providing a list and links to possible modes of transportation and a detailed itinerary. As well as providing shuttle service to and from our camp on Lopez and the Lopez Ferry Landing.
