The Lopez Island Time Trial (LITT)

The Lopez Island Time Trial (LITT) is an alleycat celebrating friendship, bicycles, and the beauty of the San Juan Islands. This event had been run privately for a decade and now begins its 2nd year open to the general cycling public.

Participants will explore various scenic locations of Lopez Island in no particular order while competing in challenges at each checkpoint. The race will test participants’ abilities in the 4 core categories: Physical Challenges, Mental Challenges, Emotional Challenges, and Psychological Challenges.

Intrepid explorers who aspire to hit all of the checkpoints should anticipate a really nice day with about 35-45 miles of riding. Surfaces are mostly paved, with some hard-packed gravel, an occasional offroad moment, and a handful of opportunities to park your bike and go on foot.

Victors will be crowned based on an elaborate, ancient, and secretive point-based scoring system; note that strength and speed alone will not win you this event. 2 separate podiums will be represented - WTFNB and Men's - though all racers will start and compete simultaneously, and may ride together in groups of their choosing.

Schedule

• Fri, Sept 11, 3pm: Group Camp opens for campers
• Fri, Sept 11, 5:30pm-7:30pm: Welcome ride - a chill social spin to the ferry dock to pick up Friday travelers, around the island a little, with an optional leg to the grocery store in town.
• Sat, Sept 12, 12pm-6pm: Race time! Race starts from The Spit at Spencer Spit
• Sun, Sept 13, 12pm - camp checkout

Camping

Camping is available both Fri and Sat nights.

We have a group site with limited spots reserved at Spencer Spit State Park - secure your spot with your reservation by adding camping for which night(s) you'll stay.

The Group site has a kitchen shelter with electrical outlet, water spigot, three picnic tables, a pedestal barbecue and fire pit.

Other camp options:

• Separately, 16 hiker/biker sites are available first-come, first-served, as part of the park.
• There are 37 reservable standard (i.e. car-friendly) campsites available through the park, though I expect many/all are already booked.
• There are many other camping/lodging options available on-island (Odlin County Park, Lopez Farm Cottages, airbnb, vrbo, ...)
• There are no showers at Spencer Spit - there are public coin-op showers at Lopez Village Park, across the street from Lopez Village Market.

• Don’t be a jerk
• No hospital or police visits
• Hawaiian shirts are required! We are on Island Time, so you best dress the part

This event is in no way affiliated with the WA State Park system, nor any official entity representing Lopez Island, so please don't bother asking them for information related to the LITT. The LITT is self-supported; you are on your own if you've got a mechanical outside of camp, run out of water, bonk due to lack of snacks, etc.
